Lyndon Faulkner, President and CEO, Pelican Products, Inc., recently welcomed and addressed students in the California Center for International Trade Development (CCITD) Micro-Internship Program for an interactive workshop, seminar and plant tour of Pelican’s 200,000 square foot Torrance, California facility.
Faulkner provided company background information and an introduction. “It was enjoyable to host an event that addresses real life business issues and helps prepare students to enter and compete in today’s workplace,” shared Faulkner.
During the workshop students were given a global business initiative and asked to produce three successful strategies. The students’ responses were judged and discussed by the Pelican team, who related the company’s actual solutions and results. This offered the students practical business insight unachievable from books alone.
Since Lyndon Faulkner joined Pelican in 2006, the company has realized a sales increase of 400% by following an aggressive strategy highlighted with acquisitions and international expansion. Faulkner has more than 30 years of business experience and has been recognized in key senior executive roles. He has driven billions in revenue to industry-shaping, Fortune 100 companies that include Technicolor®/Nimbus CD International and the Microsoft ® Corporation.
Representatives from Pelican’s Human Resources Department and the South Bay Workforce Investment Board also conducted a session on preparing students for successful job placement. Topics discussed included available high school internships, resources, interview preparation and the role and importance of social media in an applicant’s image.
